Dear Holy Trinity Family,

As we await the birth of our Lord Jesus, the Philoptochos of Holy Trinity, continues to work steadily with the importance of “giving of ourselves” through our many Outreach ministries. We focus to help those in need, especially in a time of food insecurity that many individuals and families face throughout the year. This need of sustenance is highlighted more than ever around the holiday season. There are those souls who are ill, some that do not have shelter, children that need coats this winter and parents that don’t have the ability to buy their children a toy for Christmas.

Our community is truly blessed and I thank you all for your contributions throughout the year! Through our Philoptochos fundraisers and your generosity, we were able to assist all those needs mentioned. In October, through the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, our Team, Holy Trinity Go New Ro, raised $7,580! Also in October, the Mingo Event was a fun evening for our community and with the net profit of $3,400, our Philoptochos donated to various charities such as: Philoxenia, providing a Thanksgiving shopping list for four families, FILI, an orphanage in India, providing meals for children, Friends of Karen towards their Holiday Adopt-A-Family program, to purchase toys on children’s wish lists, Carver Center in Portchester, for a food donation for the Carver Market, and HOPE Community Services in New Rochelle, providing a donation to assist in stocking their shelves with non-perishables.

On November 6th, our volunteers served a delicious Thanksgiving dinner, prepared by our Chef Manny Louros, to cancer patients, cancer survivors and their families at Cancer Support Community at Gilda’s Club in White Plains. The volunteers also brought bags of non-perishables to donate to their pantry, a way for those in need to get some food assistance. On November 9th, AHEPA along with our Philoptochos celebrated Veterans Day after Liturgy and presented $1,000 worth of grocery cards to Mr. Shawn Kingston, from the James J. Peters VA Medical Center, to be distributed to Veteran families in need. Our Holy Trinity Scouts prepared thank you cards for the Veterans too!

Please support our Community Food Drive weekly by bringing in non-perishable food items for the HOPE Food Pantry of New Rochelle! Kindly fill a shopping bag and drop it off in front of the Church Office. They also accept Kosher items too!

Through our Operation Classroom Initiative, Philoptochos member, Kathy Tzortzides purchased coats to donate to children of two New Rochelle Schools on behalf of Philoptochos!

In November and December, through our Outreach ministries, our Philoptochos continued to prepare sandwiches (Grace’s Kitchen in White Plains) and hot meals (OASIS Shelter in New Rochelle). Volunteers also served over 150 hot meals at the Soup Run in NYC and specifically in December, through the Hats, Gloves & Scarf Sale, handed out these knitted items that included a handwritten card to our homeless brothers and sisters.

In November, our Philoptochos Board members participated in an Archdiocesan District Philoptochos Social Services project along with the Interfaith Prison Partnership, and prepared 20 Release Bags filled with fleece blankets, towels, and various toiletry items, for those leaving correctional facilities and going to homeless shelters.

Our Prison ministry team also visited the Taconic Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills, spending time with the residents, praying and listening to them in kindness. Deacon Clifford Calanni, the Chaplain of the Prison, sent a beautiful letter, thanking our Holy Trinity Church Community for past contributions of skeins of yarn and bars of Dove soap. To quote Deacon Clifford: “Thank you for your presence, your spirit of compassion, and your belief that we can make a difference.”

We all have the ability to make a difference in someone’s life and I’m grateful as Philoptochos President to represent members that truly care and give of themselves in a generous and kind manner. To assist our organization in doing good for others, we have an annual Christmas fundraiser. The Candlelight Dinner is a highlight for all to enjoy in the merriment of the season! This year, the Candlelight Dinner will be held on December 11th in the Holy Trinity Social Hall, honoring our own Stephanie Madouros. Thank you for your many years of service to Philoptochos and our Holy Trinity Community!

Our Membership Drive will begin in January 2026! Our Proposed Budget Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 25th after Liturgy in the Daskos Room.

Please stay Connected! Follow us on Instagram and Facebook or visit our website at www.holytrinitynr.org. Kindly stop by our Philoptochos bulletin board in the Church foyer to see what Philoptochos offers and how you can get involved.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Blessed Christmas and a Healthy, Happy New Year!

With Love and much appreciation,

Angie Lambros, Philoptochos President

Community Food Drive

“for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink”

Each week, while doing your food shopping, please consider buying two extra items for those in need. Each item represents a meal for someone who would otherwise go hungry.

For your convenience a drop off bin is located outside the Church office.

Staples such as rice, canned tuna, peanut butter, breakfast cereal, canned vegetables, and pasta are always in great need. Each week, these food items are brought to the HOPE Food Pantry of New Rochelle.

Your contributions are an enormous help to needy families who are often faced with the continued threat of homelessness, and the difficult decision of paying rent or buying food.

Thank you for your kind support.

Greek Youth Orchestra

The Westchester County Greek Youth Orchestra gathers talented young musicians in the Greek Orthodox community. Together we explore different genres of music such as Greek, Classical, Broadway and Film music. This is a great opportunity to showcase the musical talent of the younger members of the community, and for them to share this talent with the community as a whole through performances during holidays and special occasions.

At our Greek afternoon school, we are devoted to developing literacy and fluency in the Greek language, as well as knowledge and understanding of Greek culture and traditions. Our comprehensive curriculum includes conversational and written Greek, as well as lessons in Greek history, geography, culture, and religion.

In addition to our academic instruction, we believe in the importance of celebrating Greek heritage through cultural events and festive occasions. Our students have the opportunity to showcase their talents by participating in lively performances where they dance, sing, and recite poems. These events are dedicated to honoring Greek national holidays and customs, creating a vibrant atmosphere that brings our community together and strengthens our cultural connections.

Through these enriching experiences, our students not only develop language skills but also cultivate a deep appreciation for their Greek roots. We take pride in nurturing the next generation of Greek language speakers who are knowledgeable about Greek traditions and proud bearers of our cultural heritage.

A Welcome Message

Dear Parents and Community members,

Our Greek School curriculum builds reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, teaches the origins of our Greek traditions and customs, and includes topics on Greek geography, mythology and history. The students - depending on their grade – study about the geography of Greece, ancient Greek civilizations (Cycladic, Minoan, Mycenaean, Golden age of Athens, Macedonian state and Alexander the Great), ancient Greek Mythology (Greek Gods and heroes, like Hercules & Theseus), the ancient Greek poet Homer and his poems (Iliad and Odyssey), the ancient Greek Olympic games and about famous Greek poets, writers and actors of our times. They are also taught songs and prayers depending on holidays and seasons. Our goal besides of course teaching the Greek language is to foster a strong love and respect for the Greek culture, religion, and arts – a sense of pride for our Hellenic heritage.

All our teachers have many years of teaching experience and teaching is their primary occupation. They have attended long term seminars about the teaching of Greek as a second language and most of them were born and raised in Greece and have attended Greek Universities. Also, our school is equipped with smartboards for grades 4th and up, which our teachers use in order to incorporate online activities, games, quizzes, songs and videos in their lessons.

Our Greek school operates twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays from 5:00-6.30pm. On Tuesdays our program includes Greek dance instruction with a certified Greek dance teacher, so our students have the opportunity to learn and enjoy our traditional Greek dances.

The teachers and I are looking forward to working with you to provide a successful school year filled with learning, cultural and spiritual growth, and community building for our Greek school.

We thank you all for your continued support and prayers these challenging times.

Dr. Georgia Konstantinou
Greek School Principal

Greek School PTA

Remember, we are all working together for “our most precious gifts”...our children!

The Greek School is devoted to developing literacy and fluency in the Greek Language and to cultivating knowledge and understanding of Greek cultures and traditions. The PTA’s role is to enhance and support the Greek School’s mission by providing the resources needed by our educators to attain the highest level of academic excellence while promoting communication between our school administration, teachers and parents. In order to achieve these goals, we will continue to introduce new ideas and goals, organize cultural events and fundraisers, while also maintaining many of the traditions passed down to us from our prior PTA board.

We would like to thank all of the Greek School families for their contributions to this past year’s events. We are now in the process of working out this year’s program in the hope of surpassing last year’s success. We are truly fortunate to have support from our wonderful Greek School Director, Georgia Konstantinou, along with our most-loved and respected Fr. Nick, Fr. Demetrios, and our terrific Greek School Teachers, and the Holy Trinity Church Board and Community. Remember, we are all working together for “our most precious gifts” …our children!

To enable the Greek School to begin operations on solid footing, we are collecting $30.00 per family which are the PTA dues for the 2024/25 school year. We have two General Assembly meetings this year that we encourage all parents to attend and participate in. In order to have the right to vote, you must be an active PTA member. Kindly fill out the information and membership form below and have a cash payment, check made payable to “Holy Trinity Greek School PTA”, or Zelle payment to htgspta@gmail.com as you register your children to Greek School this year. It will make the start to the school year run smoothly!  We thank you for your continued support and look forward to a productive and rewarding year on behalf of all the Greek  School children.

Sincerely Yours,

The Executive Committee, Holy Trinity Greek School PTA
