THE THREE HIERARCHS

Today our Greek school did a small presentation on the Three Hierarchs. Every year, on January 30th, the Greek school celebrates the memory of the Three Hierarchs, Fathers of the Greek education and the Greek Letters.

The Three Hierarchs are Basil the Great, John Chrysostom and Gregory the Theologian. The Three Hierarchs are the patron saints of Greek education and Greek literacy. They used the Greek language and philosophy to teach the word of God and Orthodoxy.

Their work is very important. All the poor, the sick, the orphans and the elderly found shelter near them. Their great heart and their Christian soul became a roof for those in need. They held nothing for themselves. They gave all their belongings to their fellow human beings. They taught the Christian religion and the Word of God with passion. With their preaching and with their example they taught the importance of compassion, kindness, and education. So, they were rightly called Fathers of the Church and Protectors of the Greek Education and Literacy.
