The Carver Center

Upcoming Dates

Volunteers visit the Carver Center in Port Chester, New York regularly, and assist Carver’s clients in shopping for healthy foods. We help our neighbors deal with the issue of food insecurity.

Oasis Shelter

UPCOMING DATES

The Oasis Shelter is a haven for men in New Rochelle looking for a safe, warm place to spend the night. Once each month, our volunteers prepare and deliver a hot meal to be served to men and women at the Oasis Shelter.

Volunteers are needed to prepare a simple, yet nutritious, pasta meal that feeds approximately 60 grateful friends at the Oasis Shelter. A list of all the things that are necessary for the meal preparation will be provided. If you buy the ingredients and supplies, Philoptochos will reimburse you. Otherwise, we can make all necessary purchases and bring them to you. You may volunteer to prepare the meal at your home or in the Church kitchen. You may volunteer to deliver the meal or we can do that for you. You may even team up with a friend. There are many ways to volunteer!

Dear Holy Trinity Family,

Welcome Autumn! As we began our Ecclesiastical Year in September, celebrating the Nativity of the Theotokos, and the Elevation of the Cross, our Philoptochos Chapter prepares for many activities. Starting October 14, our members will come together in the Church’s Social Hall for our first General Membership meeting, during which the chairwomen of our many Outreach Ministries, Clubs and Events, will outline the substance of each one and share how someone can get involved. This meeting will be highlighted by our Speaker Despina Kartson, who will talk about the Philoptochos Prison Ministry. From October 1 through December 1, the Ladies Philoptochos will conduct a Yarn Drive along with our Sister Philoptochos Chapters, Church of Our Saviour in Rye and Prophet Elias in Yonkers. The yarn collected will be donated to the Taconic Correctional Facility. Please see the Yarn Drive flyer for more details and learn how you can contribute to this inspirational ministry. On Friday, October 17, we will jointly host a MINGO Event (Bingo with Music), along with the Mr. & Mrs. Club! This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community, to mix and mingle with delicious food, refreshments, music and great parea. Thank you to co-chairwomen Tina Pantginis, Jennifer Curtis and Stephanie Resvanis for working to make this fun evening memorable to our community. Two days later, on Sunday,   October 19, we will participate in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. Our Team, Holy Trinity Go New Ro, will walk in unity, wearing our new pink baseball caps, to raise funds for this worthy cause. Thank you to co-chairwomen Maria Kohilakis and Margaret Papademetriou for your hard work to make this event a successful one! We are looking forward to our parishioners, family and friends to joining us. On Tuesday, October 28, volunteers are invited to join me for a visit to St. Michael’s Home in Yonkers for an OXI DAY celebration, sharing laughs, reading poems, and singing patriotic songs with the residents.

Our efforts will continue in November. On Thursday, November 6, a group of volunteers along with co-chairwomen Colleen Kourakos and Elizabeth Zoulis will serve a turkey meal prepared by our own Chef Manny Louros, to cancer patients, cancer survivors, and their families at Gilda’s Club in White Plains. On Sunday, November 9, an Artoklasia will be offered to commemorate Saints Cosmas and Damianos, the Patron Saints of Philoptochos.

Thank you to Vice President Andrea Nicholas for inspiring this spiritual celebration. Also on Sunday, in honor of Veteran’s Day, Philoptochos member Maria Fotiadis, will present grocery gift cards to a Veteran representative to distribute to Veterans in need. This presentation will include Ahepa #45 and the Scouts of our Holy Trinity Church.

Please mark your calenders! Our always popular annual Candlelight Dinner will be held in the Church’s Social Hall on Thursday, December 11. Co-chairwomen Anna Damianides and Maria Valliades are working tirelessly to make this year’s dinner magical. A few days later, Sunday, December 14, we will have our Hats, Gloves & Scarf Sale for the Homeless. Thanks to our Knitting Club, led by Sylvia Chandras and Philoptochos members George and Colleen Kourakos for donating many knitted items.

Kindly visit our Church’s website at www.holytrinitynr.org or stop by our Philoptochos bulletin board in the Church foyer (decorated by Andrea Nicholas), for dates and information for all the Outreach Ministries and Clubs. Our Chapter is Connected!  Follow us on Facebook and Instagram where you can see photos, read about our ministries and our events.

As Christians, we all try to build on our faith and love of others by volunteering or donating towards a charity. Let’s not forget to do so with humility and purpose, working together with kindness to make a difference in one’s life. Thank you all for participating in our many Philoptochos endeavors!

Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed Thanksgiving!

With Love and much appreciation,

Angie Lambros

Community Food Drive

“for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink”

Each week, while doing your food shopping, please consider buying two extra items for those in need. Each item represents a meal for someone who would otherwise go hungry.

For your convenience a drop off bin is located outside the Church office.

Staples such as rice, canned tuna, peanut butter, breakfast cereal, canned vegetables, and pasta are always in great need. Each week, these food items are brought to the HOPE Food Pantry of New Rochelle.

Your contributions are an enormous help to needy families who are often faced with the continued threat of homelessness, and the difficult decision of paying rent or buying food.

Thank you for your kind support.
