Rev. Fr. Demetrios Balidis

Biography

Fr. Demetrios joined the parish as Assistant Priest in April 2022. Like Fr. Nick, he began his parish ministry in Astoria, New York, where he served as Assistant Priest at the community of St. Demetrios Cathedral and Sts. Catherine & George Church. He served the Astoria community for nearly two years before joining Holy Trinity.

Fr. Demetrios is a graduate of Hellenic College (2017) and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology (2020) in Brookline, Massachusetts. During his senior year at Holy Cross, he was ordained to the Diaconate by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America on March 15, 2019, at The Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour in Rye, NY. While completing his studies, he served as an on-campus Deacon at the Holy Cross Chapel and at the parish of St. Nectarios in Roslindale, Massachusetts.

He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on October 26, 2020, at Saint Demetrios Cathedral in Astoria, New York, by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros.

Fr. Demetrios has longstanding ties to Holy Trinity, having attended many events here during his GOYA years with the Church of Our Saviour in Rye. Father even participated in the first mommy & me program here at the parish, held in the late 90s!

Born and raised in Scarsdale, New York, Fr. Demetrios attended Iona Preparatory School. He considers it a blessing to serve in a community so closely connected to his roots. He is especially passionate about youth ministry, the liturgical life of the Church, and pastoral care.

When he is not at the church, Fr. Demetrios can often be found traveling, exploring new restaurants, or running on Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee and spending time with his two cats, Munchkin and Dunkin.
